Parallel Vector Computer NEC SX-8R

The parallel vector computer NEC SX-8R is being used jointly by "Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe" and University Karlsruhe within the scope of  "Virtuelles Rechenzentrum" . The operational site is the "Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe".

The supercomputer comprises 2 nodes each with 8 processors. Each processor of NEC SX-8R can be used as vector computer with an independent scalar and vector unit. The theoretical peak performance of the vector unit of one processor is 35.2 GFlop/s, the theoretical peak performance of the scalar unit is 2.2 GFlop/s (cycle time is 2,2 ns). All processors of one node can access the shared main memory of 256 GByte. Thus the theoretical peak performance of the total system is 563.2 GFlop/s and the total amount of main memory is 512 GByte.

Staff members of University Karlsruhe get an account via BIT8000.
