Summary of reserach activities
I began
my university studies in Chemistry in 1997 at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, and
I finished them four years later. During my studies I did two practical
trainings at two different companies: I joined i. the "Research and
Development" section of KERN
PHARMA, where I collaborated in the development of new routes in
organic synthesis for several pharmaceutical products and ii. the
Analytical Deparment of ECA (Entidad
Colaboradora de la Administración) where I perfomed Mass
Spectrometry analysis of samples containing metals.
I joined the Photocatalysis and Green Chemistry Group in the Physical Chemistry Deparment of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in September 2002, where I did my Master in Chemistry studying heterogeneous photocatalytic processes of sulfur compounds.
In July 2003 I joined the Chemical Reaction Dynamics and Mechanisms Group (in the same Deparment) where I did my PhD in the theoretical determination of rate constants of atmospherically relevant reactions involving sulfur compounds. During my PhD I visited twice the group of Professor Truhlar in the University of Minnesota in order to complement and extent some of my projects.
In December 2006 I successfully defended my PhD and one month later I moved to the Universität Karlsruhe (Germany) to start my postdoctoral stay. Since then, I have foccused my work in studying the kinetic of gas-phase reactions by using Statistical Rate Theory; which means Master Equation studies, RRKM theory, SACM, etc.
In July 2010 I moved to Berlin where I joined the Theory Department of the Fritz Haber Institute. My research currently focuses on the understanding of and heterogeneous catalysis: design of catalyst, mechanism of the reaction, etc. To this aim, we apply different kinds of approximations, from very reliable Density Functional Theory calculations to molecular dynamics and kinetic Monte Carlo simulations, in order to understand the adsorption processes and the reactivity of the activated molecules.
