Titelseite von ChemBioChem über caged
Auxin (Kusaka et
al. 2009)

Titelgeschichte:
The cover picture shows
the concept of manipulating the intracellular auxin level by using
light and photoliable caged auxin. Auxin is polar transported in
plants so as to establish the auxin gradient required for normal
plant growth. As the auxin gradient regulates many aspect of plant
growth and development, the regulation of local auxin levels is
very important. On
p. 2195 ff,
K. Hayashi et al. show how they designed and synthesized
esterase-resistant caged auxins to control the intracellular auxin
level through photoirradiation. The esterase-resistant caged auxin
was stable within a plant cell and readily released auxin after
photoirradiation. This caged-auxin system enabled a spatial and
temporal control of intracellular auxin levels. In fact, this
system can manipulate the intracellular auxin level even in a
single cell and modulate a cell's auxin response.
