1.
In multicellular animals, the
fertilised zygote (egg cell) is the only cell with totipotency. Do the
cells of the soma contain still the entire set of genes? How can
this be tested experimentally?
2.
How would the stomata pattern look like in an Arabidopsis thaliana
mutant overexpressing the factor too many mouths (tmm)?
3.
When leaves of Arabidopsis thaliana are treated with the
phytotropin NPA (an inhibitor of auxin efflux), the following pattern is
observed (see figure, J, from Mattson et al. 1999). Can you explain this
result on the basis of the auxin-canalisation model?
4.
You want to make an ethanolic stock solution for the natural auxin
indolyl-3-acetic acid (IAA, MW 181). The working concentrations are in
the range of 1-50 µM, the solvent ethanol should not exceed 1 % to avoid
cell damage. You decide to make 10 ml of a stock solution of 1 mM. What
quantity of solid IAA is needed?
5.
What would
happen, if all cells of a mustard cotyledon would have identical
response thresholds?
